Big Island beach hotels can be found mostly on the Kohala Coast, north of Kailua Town on the sunny west side of the island. Here there are a dozen large resorts including Outrigger and Prince Hotels, as well as the smaller Kona Beach Resort.

In Kailua Town, there are plenty of hotels on the coast but most have only tiny cove beaches or rocky seafronts. The best of these is the King Kamuela overlooking the harbour.

There are few beach resorts outside of these areas, the exception being the small Sea Mountain Resort near the gorgeous black sand beach of Puunalu on the south coast.
