Maui holidays rank second in popularity to Waikiki Beach with numerous maui accommodation locations along the entire sunny west coast. Kihei on the south west coast has the highest concentration of hotels, most of which are aimed at the economy and package market as well as being the most popular location for timeshare / owner owned condominiums. To the south is the elegant resort complex of Wailea with several large and ostentatious resorts, manicured golf courses and expensive condominium homes. On West Maui, there are three distinct hotel locations. In the south, extending north from Lahaina Town, is Kaanapali with its gorgeous beach, lined with luxury to mid-range hotels. Kahana and Napili offer smaller economy hotels whilst Kapalua has several large luxury golf resorts around three championship golf courses.
The east coast of Maui is wet and tropical with its infamous winding road to Hana. Maui is considered to be the best location for whale watching and has some excellent snorkel and scuba diving sights. Island cruising is also popular to the offshore islands of Lanai and Molokai each of which has a good variety of accomodation.

Maui beaches are amongst the most popular in Hawaii and are noted for their excellent swimming and convenient resort settings, particularly along the sunny west coast resort areas of Kihei and north of Lahaina where long stretches of sand make for excellent strolling.

Beaches on Maui can be found along the entire sunny and dry west side of the island with a handful of tropical beaches on the east coast.
The scenery of Maui is dominated by two towering volcanic peaks connected by a narrow low lying isthmus. The smaller of these peaks is West Maui with the charming seaside town of Old Lahaina and its art galleries small inns and fine restaurants. North of Lahaina are the beach resorts alongside the beautiful long sandy beaches of Kaanapali and the small coves of Napili with some of best championship golf courses around the resort complex at Kapalua. West Maui enjoys peaceful views across the bay towards Lanai and Molokai islands which both can be visited on a day or overnight trip.

The larger portion of Maui is dominated by the desert-scape scenery of dormant Mt. Haleakala at just over 10,000 feet above sea level. The west coast of this portion is generally referred to as the South Coast and is drenched in all-year sunshine. An almost unbroken sandy beach coastline with good swimming extends from Maalaea in the north through the tourist town of Kihei, on to the resort complex of Wailea and stretching south to Makena before being rudely interrupted by the volcanic overspill from Mt. Haleakana which last erupted in 1790.

The rural North Coast has the least tourist appeal, although here you'll find some pleasant seaside towns, nice beaches, world class wind surfing, quiet coastal walks and the lovely historical farming towns on the cool slopes of Haleakala Mountain. The industrial town of Kahului is located on the north coast, once a busy port when the sugar industry alive and was thriving.
Tropical Hana on the rain-drenched east coast is surrounded by stunning waterfalls and deep valleys - the narrow winding "Road to Hana" is a popular scenic day trip, especially by soft-top convertible if you can afford one.
