Lanai beaches are wild and spectacular and make for a popular day trip destination from Maui. Unfortunately, there is little accommodation on the coast, with most places to stay in the central town of Lanai. Hulopoe beach is a particular favourites, with fine sand, palm trees and calm turquoise waters. The snorkelling here and at adjacent Manele Bay is amongst the best in Hawaii. Shipwreck Beach on the north shore of Lanai is another great beach, but the waters here are usually much rougher but the panoramas are breathtaking.

Molokai offers plenty of beaches, with several lovely secluded cove beaches on the south coast and being protected by a fringing reef, the sea is usually flat. On the east (Halawa) and west (Papahoku) tips of the island are two large beautiful beaches with wide expanses of sand but both have dangerous currents, particularly in winter.
